Anoka Cross Country Holds Section Meet
By Nicole Wahl
On October 28 the Anoka Cross Country Team hosted the 2010 Section meet. With lots of big competition teams to run against, the Anoka runners did a fabulous job. Annie Asp (10) said that Andover was their biggest rival.
“It’s cold but we’re gonna run our best, said Haley Putnam.
The team feels pressure because they hosted the event. Every team member was cold, everybody was bundled in their sweatshirts, hats, gloves, coats and more.
“I felt amazing and ran amazing. It was the best race I had all year,” Gabbi Guimont (10) said.
Coach Pete Tremaine explained how a cross country meet is scored.
“Typically there are 7 runners on a Varsity team, the top five placers score points for the team and the other two are displacers. A team score is determined by adding the places of the top five team members together to come up with a total. (ie. Runner 1 places 3rd, Runner 2 places 7th, Runner 3 places 14th, Runner 4 places 17th, Runner 5 places 22nd) 3+7+14+17+22 = 63. Low score wins. A perfect score is 15 (1+2+3+4+5),” said Tremaine.
Anoka will be sending 2 runners to the state meet nest weekend–Katelyn Fritz (11), and Alexis Fritz (9). Good luck at state.
