On Thursday, September 16, the Anoka girl’s varsity tennis team faced Coon Rapids at the Anoka Courts.
Anoka has had a good season leading up to the match against a team who is in the top fifteen in section AA in the state of Minnesota. Winning for the team against Coon Rapids was the number one doubles team of Whitney Leisner and Lauren Rice. They fought through a tough three set match with set scores of 5-7,6-4,6-2.
Although they were Anoka’s only winning team, many other players had strong matches. The second doubles team of Rachel Koehler and Justine Foyt played a hard fought match, with many points at the net and with set scores of 4-6,4-6.
The singles teams all faced challenging opponents, but stayed consistent throughout their matches. The girls now have a record of 5-5, and hope to continue to have a strong season. Coach Fellows is optimistic about a good finish for the season with wins against some challenging opponents.
“We are in a strong sections and conference, so every match is a battle,” said Coach Fellows. The team would like to stay above 500 and then be able to complete the season with a home section match.
